How To Get Your Garden In Shape For Summer

If this summer turns out to be anything like last summer, our hottest ever on record, you’ll want to spend far more time outside of your home than inside of it.

UPVC Decking

It’s not often we get good weather in this country, so when we do, you need to make the most of it and that doesn’t necessarily mean heading to the nearest beer garden. Head for your garden instead!

But, before any potential heatwave, consider for a moment what condition your garden is currently in and whether it’s set-up for sitting outside? If you dislike what you presently see, you need to get it looking shipshape and stunning now so that your summer at home is as special as it ought to be.

Keep on top of your garden

Think yourself fortunate to own a garden and ALWAYS take pride in its appearance. Regularly remove any rubbish that has collected on and around the lawn, along with any weeds, either by hand or by using a weed killer, and give the grass a cut with your lawnmower every couple of weeks. Any tired looking plants should also be dug up and plant some new ones to give the garden some colour come summer. Cut back your hedges and bushes too.

Clean your garden furniture

You may have made the mistake of leaving your garden furniture out over the winter, rather than covering it or putting it into storage. This will have likely left your chairs, tables and parasols looking worse for wear and some items could have rusted. Hose and scrub your furniture down to see if that makes any difference. If it doesn’t, go out and buy some replacement furniture and remember to protect this time.

Install a decking area

All of that furniture could sit on a brand new beautifully arranged decking area in the garden where you can take in the outdoor scene, host BBQ’s, enjoy al fresco dining with friends and family and top up your tan. Unless you want to be constantly staining and cleaning your decking, we would suggest that you fit UPVC decking, not traditional timber decking, as UPVC decking is maintenance-free and slip-resistant.
